ATHLETICS SOUTH CROSS COUNTRY

The Athletics South Winter Season commences in April and extends through until the end of September.  Events are held at a different location each week and cover a variety of courses from cross country to road runs.

Feature events include the Graeme Cruise Memorial at Bellerive Beach, the John Keenan Memorial on the Lower Domain Road, the Max Cherry Memorial on Max's Infinity Loop and the Jenny Lennon Memorial at Runnymede.

THE FOCUS OF CROSS COUNTRY

Whilst there are individual awards on offer foroverall consistency points and handicap events, the main focus is upon participation, with all finishers scoring points for their club.

Athletes of all abilities are catered for, with a long and a short race provided at most events.  Courses are well marked so no one gets lost and many participants are happy to walk and enjoy a chat at the rear of the field.

The interclub environment provides for friendly rivalry and great camaraderie and the provision of tea and coffee post-race adds to the relaxed social atmosphere.

HISTORY

With over 60 years of history behind it, the Athletics South Winter Season is renowned for its inclusive nature, with a family friendly environment that has seen the formation of many life-long friendships.
